The Falmouth Road Race was established in 1973 and has become one of the premier running events of the summer season. Each year the race draws an international field of Olympians, elite, and recreational runners out to enjoy the iconic 7-mile seaside course.
Last year’s RMHCNE Falmouth Road Race team raised over $150,000 for the children and families we serve! Every Summer, our Falmouth Team hosts runners from diverse backgrounds with stories that inspire and motivate us all. It is a privilege to interact with people who not only challenge their physical limits but also embody the values we hold dear – generosity, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to serving others.

Meet Ben
In January 2020, our son Ben suffered a life-changing skiing accident. Ben experienced a traumatic brain injury while participating in a beginner’s ski lesson. He was flown to Albany Medical Center, where he remained on a ventilator for six days while doctors monitored the swelling in his brain. Over the next few months, Ben underwent several surgeries and procedures while in the pediatric intensive care unit. Despite the ongoing impacts from his accident, Ben’s inspiring recovery brings us immense joy, and we are grateful to see him enjoy life.
During Ben’s time at Albany Medical Center, Vicky and I were incredibly thankful for the opportunity to stay many nights in the Ronald McDonald House Family Room, conveniently located within the pediatric intensive care unit. This allowed us to be by Ben’s side during the most challenging moments of his recovery. The Ronald McDonald House Family Room became a haven for all of us, offering generous amenities, endless coffee, snacks, and kind words from the volunteers, providing much-needed support during this difficult time.
Many of our cherished memories during this period were created in the RMHC Family Room, surrounded by family and friends. Amidst the numerous visitors, the visits from Sam, Ben’s brother, were particularly impactful. Spending time together, especially during Vicky’s birthday morning before Ben’s major eight-hour reconstructive surgery of his skull and brain matter, was incredibly emotional. Having Sam, friends, and family present throughout Ben’s hospitalization helped us all stay strong. Additionally, the games and activities offered by RMHC at the hospital provided much-needed distractions and joy for both Ben and Sam.
We are incredibly grateful to have Ben in our lives! While some days are better than others, we strive to live life to the fullest. Ben will be attending seventh grade at LaSalle Institute in nearby Troy, NY this fall, shortly after celebrating his 12th birthday on August 30th. Our family is highly active, enjoying traveling, spending time outdoors, and visiting our camp in Lake Luzerne, NY. Every August, we look forward to our annual trip to Cape Cod, where we stay just a short walk from Old Silver Beach. This year, I’ve decided to participate in the Falmouth Road Race during our visit, which will be the longest race I’ve ever run. I’ve been training hard and am incredibly motivated to represent RMHC!
*We are incredibly grateful to have Jason, Ben’s dad, as a valuable member of our Falmouth Team. His dedication to representing RMHC and his heartfelt story about Ben’s journey reaffirms the tremendous power of our mission. It is through stories like these that we find the strength and inspiration in togetherness. Good luck to our entire Falmouth Road Race Team!
